Head of Finance

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking a Head of Finance to serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the CEO, supporting the organisation's sustainable growth and expansion. This role is responsible for leading the finance function, overseeing procurement, risk, budgeting, cash flow, compliance, and financial planning. The successful candidate will drive cost-benefit analysis, secure and manage funding opportunities, develop capital-raising strategies, and ensure sound financial governance to support the organisation's long-term objectives.

Responsibilities & Skills: 

  • Contribute to the development of the overall business strategy by providing financial analysis, insights, and guidance to support informed decision-making.
  • Partner with the CEO, executive leadership, and management team to drive the organisation's strategic vision and growth initiatives.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain strong relationships with investors and key financial stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic leadership across Finance, Risk, Compliance, Accounting, and Procurement functions.
  • Optimise the organisation's financial model to improve financial performance and long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee and maintain full accountability for the finance and procurement functions.
  • Ensure financial systems, processes, and controls are robust, compliant, and scalable to support business growth.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement business strategies and operational plans.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure budgets are prepared, reviewed, and monitored effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement through cost optimisation, process innovation, and operational efficiencies.
  • Oversee month-end, year-end, and statutory financial reporting, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manage the organisation's cash flow and treasury strategies to maintain financial stability.
  • Lead and manage the annual external financial audit process.
  • Prepare and present monthly and annual financial reports to the Board and investors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with investors, financial institutions, auditors, and external advisors.
  • Research and implement banking and financial technology innovations to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer and supplier experiences.
  • Develop and oversee corporate finance strategies, including capital requirements, debt management, taxation, and funding initiatives.
  • Ensure effective financial risk management and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing Finance, Compliance, and Procurement teams.
  • Drive succession planning and employee development for key finance leadership roles.
  • Foster a high-performance, accountable, and values-driven culture within the finance function.
  • Promote and uphold strong corporate governance, ethical standards, and the organisation's Code of Conduct.
  • Develop and implement company-wide financial policies and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Preferably a CA(SA) qualification, or a minimum BCom Accounting degree.
  • At least 15 years' post-articles experience in finance.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a senior management role within a high-growth or entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proven experience in investor relations.
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with a Board of Directors and executive leadership.
  • Strong experience with financial technology systems and digital finance solutions.
